Henri Christophe, the ruler of Haiti in the early 19th century had the Citadel built during his reign. There are towering walls of 13 feet thick. The Citadel is recently restored. The view from the mountaintop and the Citadel is breathtaking.

The Haiti National Museum is another must see attraction on Haiti island. The Haiti National Museum is in Port au Prince and has exhibits from centuries of Haitian history from the Taino Indians time to modern times. The anchor from the Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus' flagship is also an exhibit at the Haiti National Museum.
