Planning a Vacation in Emporia KS

Emporia KS has 18 parks with a total of 250 acres altogether for people to enjoy. The Jones Aquatic Center is Emporia 's public recreation center where you can enjoy playing many sports.

Visiting parks in Emporia KS

The largest parks in Emporia KS are:

  • Peter Pan Park,
  • Jones Park,
  • Hammond Park, and
  • Soden’s Grove Park, home of the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia (admission to the zoo is free).

Activities you can do at these parks (different at each park) include tennis, disc golf, basketball, bocce ball, hiking on nature trails, picnic in covered picnic shelters, fishing in various fishing ponds, amphitheater, and playing in the basic playground environment.

Emporia’s Recreational Center

Emporia’s Recreational Center has other indoor fun and games. There is a gymnasium that hosts basketball and volleyball, a game room with billiard tables, snooker table, air hockey rinks, electronic dart boards, and an indoor pool for those more aquatic.

The Jones Aquatic Center

If you like to swim, the Jones Aquatic Center offers more variety than Emporia’s Recreational Center. The Jones Aquatic Center  opened on May 25th 2002. The Jones Aquatic Center has slides, sprinkling waterfalls, aquatic basketball, and a lazy river. Kids love to play at the Jones Aquatic Center in the summer.

Emporia Municipal Golf Course

A few miles south of Emporia town, there is an 18-hole public golf course which was opened in 1970.
